As a very amateur photographer I am sometimes annoyed by the unforeseen interference of shadows – occasionally my own – intruding on my planned ‘beautiful’ picture. It can be very frustrating, especially if that particular angle or position is what one really wants.
Our shadow is always with us. In dull light we may not even notice it, but in strong sunlight it is quite clear, though most of the time we tend not to think about it at all.
Our shadow is similar to our conscience. We can ignore it and pretend that it is not there, but it has a nasty habit of suddenly making an appearance when we least want it, testing our desires against what we know, deep inside, is the ‘right thing’. True happiness is when we live life with a clear conscience.
